Devin held Alana firmly against his chest; her presence making him a whole person again. Kissing her between every sentence, he didn’t care what kind of display he was putting on. “I love you so much.” Kiss on the forehead. “I am so sorry this happened to you.” Kiss on the lips. “I will never let anything like this happen to you again.” Kiss on the cheek. “I will protect you with my life.” Kiss. Kiss. Kiss.

Gazing into her eyes, his emotions kept him quiet for a moment. “You’re the first true love I have ever had. I don’t know how to be without you Alana. You have to promise you'll never leave me again.”

Speechless, Alana had never been showered with the all-consuming presence of love. She finally knew how it felt to be cherished. Merging her lips to his, she let the impact of her kiss linger before speaking. “I love you.” Kiss. “I love you so much.” Kiss. Kiss. Kiss. "I'll never leave you again. I promise."

Devin ensured his voice didn’t project into the front seat this time. “I heard you, Alana. I don’t know how, but I could hear you talking to me.”

At first, Alana had no idea what he had been talking about. When the realization hit her, she gasped. She searched his eyes for confirmation and understanding. She assumed she was losing her mind when she thought she was talking to her husband through some type of telepathic link. Now, his confirmation bought a whole new twist to their connection and proved that they shared a bond that couldn’t be explained.

Her breathless words sailed into his ear. “I heard you too. Do you have any idea what it means?”

He smiled in spite of looming fear. “Yeah, it means we are either both crazy or both really special.”

Kevin couldn’t contain a smile as he listened to the couple in the back seat. He was glad to see that Alana had made it through this incident and even happier that she'd had the guts to stand up to Fred and fight back. He didn’t have the heart to tell Alana that Smoke had been the point agent in the case that had ended her brother’s life a few years ago.

The Truleta Cartel had been the link in the deaths of Alana’s mother and brother. Fred and his minions may have been the guilty party that kidnapped Alana, but Kevin was certain strings were being pulled by the same Cartel they had been working to take down for years.

Kevin like Smoke, couldn’t help wondering how the Santoses were tied to a mysterious crime Cartel. Now that they had Fred, they were fairly certain they would collect a few more pieces to the mystery. Unfortunately, they had been collecting pieces that made the progression of taking down the Cartel a slow and challenging process.

Agents like Smoke, Dax and T-Rex were becoming a necessity when dealing with criminals that seemed to know how to perform magic tricks. This time, they were left deciphering how Fred had gotten free of a maximum security prison and got hands on Alana.

Although the couple weren’t the wiser, Top agents had been keeping eyes on both Alana and Devin since their marriage. It’s why Kevin hadn’t been worried about their safety. Now, the game had changed. If they were dealing with entities that knew how to circumvent Top level agents, then their problem was much more complex than they thought.

  Epilogue

Alana placed a hand on her hip, the other held a large kitchen knife. "Up until I met you, my life was somewhat normal. Now, it seems I can hear thoughts and heal people by touching them. When your cousin found me in that loft with Fred and his goons, I had deep cuts, bruises and lacerations. Hell, you saw me.”

She took a breath. “By the time I made it to your cousin’s secret hospital, only a few hours away, they couldn’t find a mark on me. The look on Kevin’s and Smoke’s faces said it all. They were shocked and they don't appear to be the kind of people that shock easily. They gave us information about the Cartel but there is much more they aren’t telling us. I don’t think any of us are normal. Kevin seems to see and hears things no one else can and Smoke is like…I can’t even describe her. We still don’t know how Kevin tracked me.”

Backing away from his wife, Devin kept distance between them. When he was losing his mind, it was easy to latch onto something unbelievable. “And you think we have supernatural abilities that were somehow activated when we met?”

Alana shook her head, determined to make her point. “It started when we met, but after we consummated our marriage everything seemed to intensify, not only between us but also with this unknown entity that you seem to have conveniently forgotten about. I have currents of some kind flowing through me, and I know you feel it too. For Christ’s sake Devin, we spoke to each other without a damn phone.”

Shaking his head, Devin had convinced himself that they were going through enough emotional turmoil that their thoughts had aligned, making them think they were reading each other’s minds. Alana had only been back home a week and they had already had four arguments over the matter. Devin didn’t mind their fights one bit because they always lead to the best spine tingling make-up sex he’d ever experienced. However, he feared Alana was taking things a bit too far this time. He had awoken to her standing over him with a large kitchen knife.

Since she had healed so fast from her fight with Fred, she assumed he had the same qualities. Devin wasn’t so sure. She told him of the miraculous healing of her patients at her job, convinced that it was all somehow triggered the moment they had been married. The fact that Kevin didn't try to explain her theories away convinced her to latch on to them tighter. Kevin would only offer that amazing and unexplained occurrences happen every day.

Devin kept his back to the door, his hand gripping the door knob. Alana stood a few feet away looking sexy as a flicker from that big ass knife gleamed across his view. If she wasn’t such a beautiful addiction, he would be tempted to get her some professional help. But, he couldn’t deny that there were several phenomena happening with them that logic couldn’t explain.

Shaking his head a few times, he failed to shake off the hypnotic trance she was capable of putting him in. He loved her so much he contemplated letting her cut him. He took a few sobering breaths. “If I let you do this, will you drop it?”

  “Yes, Baby, I’ll drop it.”

Why did she have to call me Baby? “Can you do it in a place where you don’t accidently cut something that might kill me?”

Instead of answering him, she walked seductively forward with the knife behind her back. Her eyes were filled with a burning lust that quickened his pulse.

Since she was still on a leave of absence, Alana had ample time to learn as much as she could about her husband. Since it was equally beneficial to her, she eagerly learned what he liked in the bedroom. Dropping her robe with nothing but a black lace see-through bra and panty set, she knew it would pull Devin’s full attention.

Devin realized Alana was distracting him, but he didn’t mind, nor could he resist the pull she had on him. He welcomed slow passionate kisses as he let her take his attention completely.

The knife sliced through his wrist in a flash, leaving lingering sparks of pain and an electric current flowing through his flesh. Devin stood wide-eyed, horrified that she’d likely severed an artery. The craziest thing about the situation, he wasn’t mad at her as he watched blood flow from his arm and drip to the floor.

Alana quickly took off her bra, which drew Devin’s attention away from his wrist as droplets continued to hit the floor. Taking off her panties, she ensured she gave him a good show. She turned her back to him and bent over to let him see what he was about to get. Once out of her panties, she turned back and wrapped her thin underwear around his bleeding wrist and rewarded him with a tongue-tingling kiss.

Walking him to their bed, she relaxed him first by putting her mouth where he seemed most stressed. Then, she made such sweet love to him, Devin forgot about his wrist completely. Awakening refreshed and relaxed, Devin found it amazing that every time they made love, it seemed like their first exciting time together. If there was a special gift present, Devin would say their sex life should be the first to go on
the list. Alana had so quickly learned what he liked that it seemed they had been lifetime lovers.

Returning from the bathroom with a wet wash cloth, Alana reached for Devin’s wrist. Unwrapping it, she cleaned away dried blood.

Devin’s eyes nearly popped from the sockets.

  Nothing.

Staring at his wife, he was forced to except that something extraordinary was in fact happening to them. Investigating his wrist closely, he noticed it was as smooth as it had ever been. No signs of a scar remained.

They were left with a perplexing question. Had Devin healed himself or had Alana healed him?
